[Sussex] Dial-up twice

Hi all,

Recently, when dialling-up to my Freeserve account, I have to dial-up
twice before I can get my e-mails. I was using Mozilla when this first
started. To see if it was Mozilla, I set up Sylpheed to get my Freeserve
e-mail & the same things happens:

Dial-up first time (doesn't matter whether e-mail client is opened before
or after dial-up), attempt to receive mail will bring up "errors occurred
while getting mail". X-term has messages saying couldn't locate
pop.freeserve.net, etc etc.

CTRL-C; dial-up again, get e-mails no problem. Can't work this one out - I
suspect that something may have changed with the changeover from Freeserve
to Wannabesomethingnoonesheardof. I noticed this evening that I no longer
get the user login message after doing wvdial.

I'm just baffled as to why it won't work first time but always works
second time.

Incidentally, dialling-up to my uklinux account (which I'm using as I
write this) always works first time.

Any thoughts welcome,

Gavin.
