Welcome to the club and the maillist, George.

I can confirm that there is a moot this month and that it WILL be on the
31st. When the moot gathering day was set it was decided by vote, on this
list, to keep it as the last Thursday of each month (except December -
there's some kind of religious do on towards the end of that month, and
it causes some people a problem attending both).

Why some people are doubtful it is the 31st is beyond me. If the
last Thursday is the last day of the month then that is the date of the
moot. Sometimes the last Thursday is also the fourth Thursday, and
sometimes it is the fifth, but regardless of whether it is the fourth or
fifth Thursday it is always the last Thursday. I hope this makes things
clear :-). If in doubt check the website. I programmed the calculation
of when the moot day falls in each month, and as I was voted MootMaster
the other month I can now claim that my code is bug free and always get
the date right (whatever it outputs - including the 32nd [1]!!!!!

I hope you can make it to the moot this month [That's the 31st for those
that are hard of understanding :-) ]. We are having an install fest,
so we can give you a hand installing your machine, which might be of
some use to you. I will be bring a Debian mirror with me to make
installing of Debian very fast. The machine will also have the 3.8
version of Knoppix if you want to get in.

Steve

P.S. If you want to know why I call the meetings "moots" then see
the website.

While testing I did see a 32nd day of the month. I got caught by the
leap-second problem because I was using midnight as my time in each day,
and that cause the calculation to barf once.
