Thanks for the useful tip.

A possible further explanation is that there are memory leaks
in the source code.

If you have a fast machine, you might try running Firefox under the
valgrind simulation tool [ www.valgrind.org ] and investigating what it
says.

OTOH, shutting down Firefox once a day may help.
