[Sussex] Memory Died Today

Hi all

Today I had my first system crash due to dead memory - maybe as the
result of cosmic rays. :-)

While upgrading my server it died! It wouldn't reboot and sometimes it
wouldn't even finish the memory check in the BIOS - it would either
finsih themeory check and then die a little later or stop after the
first 128K in the memory check itself.

So I pulled the second stick and replaced it with a spare I just
happened to have and now the server is backup and running fine.

Andy - shut up :-) I like my cosmic ray theory even if there is another
more logical explanation. :-) I did once have a supplier (Sun) tell me
that the bug I was reporting might be due to cosmic rays - I dismissed
that because it was very, very repeatable, but I've been looking out for
a cosmic ray excuse ever since and this is the closest I've got. Cosmic
rays damaged my memory! :-)
