If you're talking about Guildford on Saturday then I suspect that you
meant to post this to the Surrey List not the *Sussex* one.

As to your question I have to admit to being a little confused.  What is
 this "op" that a friend of yours has?  I assume it isn't anything to do
with going under a surgeon's knife.

As for screen resolution I think most screen preferences work these
days.  I run Gnome and it seams be just find at that.  Look under
System->Preferences->Screen resolution - that is what I use if I want to
change screen resolution.  It copes with a multi-headed system too.
