Ok, so that's what it says, and for brevity (as far as can be of course),
I've chopped the bit off the end that mentions keyboards, mice and other
bit's and bob's that aren't (as I understand it) relevant.

Out of desperation, I said cobblers to it, and tried the next possible
option for someone like me, who knows little or nothing about this. I
installed Linux Mint 11 (64bit) in the hope that, might pick it up. It
didn't - well, when I fire up the "additional drivers" facility, it still
says the same thing i.e. that the driver is activated but not currently in
use and that No proprietary drivers are in use on the system.

Judging from the packages updated by the Mint update manager, I'm presuming
that Linux Mint is an Ubuntu derivative, which might explain why it is that
it is doing the same thing as Ubuntu 11.04.

I notice that in the output from the log, that there's one (WW) and one (EE)
i.e. that's nothing to do with cyrillic fonts and other X server related
issues. It seems to be referring to the "nv" driver or module (sorry, I
don't really understand the difference). Many moons ago, it used to just be
the case for opening and editing the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, whereby I just
had to change the "nv" to "nvidia" for it all to work, but it now seems that
somethings changed and there's next to nothing actually in the
/etc/X11/xorg.conf file now, I have no idea where all that type of info is
kept now.

Does anyone know what, if anything, can be done ?

regards

John D.
