I'd go further than that and suggest that people disconnect in thunderstorms unless you have a surge protected adapter. We once had an email to the mag from a reader whose computer had been rather badly damaged by a lightning strike to the telephone wire. I'm not an electrical engineer so I don't know if there is any risk to the computer when using a modem router though I wouldn't expect the router to survive!
