[SWLUG] Ppp on demand

I'm a beginner (or strictly speaking, an experienced non-learner).
I'm just trying out RedHat 8. (As an upgrade of a copy of my RH7.1 partition,
it was a disaster, and broke all sorts of things that had worked smoothly,
but as a clean install it's working very smoothly.) I got an internet
connection quickly by configuring an interface (ppp0) in the Network Device
Control app, and found I could browse (with Mozilla & Lynx) & send/receive
e-mail (tried Evolution & Balsa so far).

Can anyone suggest a way (without going back to the script I used to use)
of getting the ppp interface to activate itself when I do something (e.g.
trying to receive an e-mail, or browsing) that requires it? There must be
simple ways of doing this.

  Thanks
Gareth Watkins
