Dear All

I am thinking of making an internal network with internet access via my NTHell cable modem (Surfboard 4100).

Currently I have Mandrake 8 on my laptop and connect to the internet via the onboard ethernet card which connects to the NTL cable modem. The IP address is assigned automatically.

I also have a pc (windows) which has an ehternet card. This has in the past connected to the internet via the cable modem as well. When it did the ip address was assigned automatically.

What I would like to do is:
1) Introduce a switch, into which the cable modem, pc and laptop will connect.
2) Have internet access via both the pc and laptop
3) Transfer files between the pc and laptop

If I:
1) turn all devices off
2) physicaly connect the patch cables from switch to pc and from switch to laptop and from switch to cable modem
3) turn cable modem on and let it light up and settle down so that all lights are on
4) turn on laptop
5) turn on PC
will I achive my objectives ?

Ant advice appreciated.

Hope to hear from you
