[SWLUG] How to remove the linux ID from the telnet prompt?

When a user Telnets into a box it usually provides a prompt
like

Cobalt Linux release 6.0 (Shinkansen-Decaf)
Kernel 2.2.16C32_III on an i586

Or
FreeBSD/i386 (adomain.com)

To quote just two examples

Is there any way to alter the prompt on login for telnet users so that it
says something different and doesn't give away the system being run?

BTW I am aware of the security issues around Telnet!
