I have had many problems with kppp and freeserve. It always dies after
negotiation for me. I haven't tried it with other ISPs, only with
freeserve. It's strange, since it works flawlessly with pon/poff. Does
anyone have any insight into this?

Meanwhile, I'm happily using pon/poff. But I admit that it does look
messy if you're showing off Knoppix (or anything else), and they ask how
to connect to the Internet, and you pop open a console to type pon. I
don't know of any graphical tools that dial up to freeserve correctly.
Even that nice looking GNOME one (which I forget the name of) didn't
work for me.
