I have used Knoppix 3.3 and qtparted to resize an ntfs partition it 
works fine
also look at  http://www.sysresccd.org/ which also uses qtparted
My latitude works very nicely with Mandrake 9.2 even installs in Welsh 
and has Welsh desktop in Gnome which impressed a few people in my village!
