[SWLUG] 'hw read/write mismap 0' error

i get the above when i try to put a soundcard into this netpilot box i'm 
messing with, it has an onboard davicom ne compatible ethernet which works 
fine when loaded with the right options, when i slot a sound card in, i've 
tried two - a sb16 and an aztech waverider - the the ethernet is detected 
according to dmesg at the right io and port but i get constant on screen 
messages on the above and also: trigger_send() transmitter busy
if i take eth0 down these messages stop, either way i have no network with the 
soundcard present, having the soundcard module loaded or unloaded seems to 
make no difference
when i put the modem back in the isa slot that originally came with the box i 
have no problems with the ethernet, both soundcards seem to have no jumpers 
for io and irq whereas the modem does so i'm wondering if pnp is a problem, 
but if it is i have no idea what to do about it
