The only one you needed to use was:

video=vga16:off

If that didn't help, then it might well be something else. Not knowing
enough about how SuSE installs is my fallacy here, however, the kernel
option I gave you was on the provisio that you can use a text-based
installer, since the way you're booting now is still in X, which is most
likely why it has no effect.

There must/is a text-version of yast; What do the docs say for SuSE 8.2,
Peter?

Keep digging. It is probably something like:

yast1

(at least it is for SuSE 7.1 pro)
