Company Background
Our client is an exciting, young and fast growing company based in
Reading who provides email virus, spam and content filtering services
known as "MailControl" for corporate customers. Producing feature-rich
managed service software of consistent quality is vital to ensure
MailControl's continuing success.


We are now looking for a Software Development Engineerto join our team.
This engineer will focus on the development of enhancements to our
services infrastructure.



Job Description
Role: Software Development Engineer


Reporting To: Development Manager


Key Responsibilities:


      * Development of the infrastructure of the service.
        
      * Implementation of new features and enhancements. 
        
      * Ensuring consistent quality in all software that is released.
        
      * Third-line customer support, working alongside members of the
        support team in resolving complex customer issues that may
        arise.
        
      * Technical support, working alongside members of the operations
        team in resolving complex operational problems.
        
        


Experience and Skills:
      * Demonstrable experience of developing Unix/Linux-based software
        solutions to consistent quality standards. 
        
      * Experience of developing cross-browser web-based applications
        using HTML, Javascript, Perl, SQL, other programming languages,
        CVS or similar and Bugzilla or similar.
        
      * Problem solving and communication skills are required, whilst
        working to tight deadlines.
        
      * Experience of some of the following: SMTP-based e-mail systems
        and sendmail, milter, MIMEDefang, ssh, shell scripting, TCP/IP,
        DNS, Apache, mod_perl, mason, mysql, RPM and building and
        upgrading Linux systems.
        
      * Prior experience of design and analysis techniques and tools,
        internationalisation and localisation, testing frameworks,
        performance development and testing, and quality assurance
        procedures are useful.
        
      * Prior knowledge of content filtering, anti-virus and spam
        products or technologies is of value.
        
      * Consistent and thorough, you will "go the extra mile" to resolve
        customer issues.
        
        
Alongside other members of the team the successful applicant will be
expected to be on-call to deal with support issues outside normal
working hours on a rota basis.
