Hi Tony,

I think it's a kernel 2.6.4 or below issue.  I have the same scanner, 
albeit the USB variant and had the exact same error trying to use it.  I 
had Mandrake 10.0 with kernel 2.6.4 (I think).  I recently upgraded to 
MDK 10.1 and now the scanner works.  So either the GT7000 module for the 
early 2.6.* kernel is stuffed, there is a generic issue with the early 
2.6.* scanning anyway, OR the XSANE version supplied with early 2.6.* 
kernels is flawed in some way.  My advice would be to try and update to 
a later kernel, such as 2.6.8 or later.
