Hi Julian,

It's a direct connection into his PC, and he's had the foresight to use the
ethernet connection. That's what makes me suspicious that something 
fundamental
is awry.

Hi Marcus,

Does he have it on a router or direct connection to the PC, and if
Direct is it USB or Ethernet?  By default NTL connect them to USB so
that could be the problem, in fact I'd put money on it because Linux as
you know is fine at picking up network devices.
