[SWLUG] compiling mod_perl for apache1

in my distro - mandriva 2006, there is no rpm for mod_perl for apache1.3.3 
even though it provide apache1 as well as the newer apache2, so i downloaded 
the src rpm for the previous distro version, installed it (could'nt do rpm 
--rebuild because of dependencies that wanted apache1 stuff to be known as 
apache!)
i followed the instructions to build as an external loadable module, all went 
okay until i restarted apache1 with the message:
[root at watson bascule]# service apache1 start
Starting apache1: Syntax error on line 244 of /etc/apache1/conf/httpd.conf:
Cannot load /etc/apache1/modules/libperl.so into 
server: /etc/apache1/modules/libperl.so: undefined symbol: boot_DynaLoader 
[FAILED]
the thing is that this is a fresh install, on an upgrade to 2006 from mandrake 
10.0 this building of mod_perl worked and apache1 ran, i don't really know 
where to look to solve this problem
any ideas?
