There is a bug in the latest Nvidia drivers that Ubuntu Jaunty offers.
 Again, a similar problem as above.  However, you get a lovely 2px
line at the top of the screen and that's it - no desktop at all.  Only
affects certain cards.

Solution was to remove everything Nvidia-based that Ubuntu Jaunty
offers (and a few other packages) and upgrade to the latest beta
drivers - 185.18.14 which you can get from Nvidia's ftp.
