Never bought a combo printer/copier.

My printers:

HP Color LaserJet Pro CP1525NW Printer - lovely, but slow.
Samsung ML-2571N MONO Laser - fantastic.
Canon Pixma iP100 Portable Inkjet Printer - PITA due to old drivers.

Naturally, check toner / ink costs, pages per minute, DPI, etc.

Scanner:

SANE was one of the big scanner projects, IIRC.

http://www.sane-project.org/sane-mfgs.html

I have a Epson Perfection 4490 Photo, which I'm sure that I got
working with Linux (not SANE) at one point in time, but it's used so
infrequently that I just use a Macbook with it. I wouldn't take that
as 'working' though :)

I seem to remember there is a combo scanner/copier/printer by HP, but
something put me off buying it (possibly quality, performance or
inkjet-based).

As mentioned, don't take my word for anything - always run searches
for every model you consider and peoples' experiences.
