I am unsure that the blog-like style of new articles, upon which
wordpress is designed, really suits our needs. the utter lack of
new
postings over the years suggests that we arent going to be
generating
news items with any kind of regularity to really fit with that
kind of
style. I think it better to admit that we are much more a static
pages kind of
setup, and whilst i hear that WP can be bludgeoned into that task,
would
it not be better to start with something based on that philosophy,
such
as a wiki, from the offset ?

It's really easy to set up a static site in WP. The advantages are
the themes/skins/templates (whatever you want to call them), the
ease of adding new pages (or posts if you have them) and the ease of
making alterations to existing pages (or posts if you have them).
You don't have to have any blog-like pages at all on a WP site if
you don't want to. I could set up a blog-less WP site in the time
it takes me to type in the content (plus a bit for installation -
say 30 mins including setting up the database).
But I'm not a salesman for WP, if someone else knows of an easier
way of getting a pretty (as in nicely styled and designed) site that
suits the requirements, then I'm all for it.
