I bought some memory sticks today. When I get the energy to release them from their plastic prison I'll transfer everything from the downloads folder onto a stick and copy everything on the desktop and documents folder to a stick (plus a couple of things that mysteriously ended up in root). In the end I used the Mint installer and got a good version of the IDE. I'm not sure what I was using before as this IDE looks to haveway more options.
