Thanks for the offer but things have moved on. I found several
Linksys firmware versions saved on another machine and flashed both
Linksys routers. Eventually I got them both set up and working as I
wanted them.

Interestingly, Cisco have removed Linksys firmware file downloads
from their website. You can imagine my enthusiasm for purchasing
Cisco any time soon and on0line support is at 10 pence per minute,
including keeping callers waiting for support. By comparison,
Talktalk's support is pretty good!

The Netgear was the one I really wanted to restore but despite
pressing its 'restore to factory defaults' button I cannot get into
its set-up routine.
I don't know whether to chuck the Netgear or not. Shall I bring it t
the next meeting?

Talking about the next meeting, where's it going to be? If it's to
be at Croxley Green, shouldn't we check to see if they have wifi at
least?
access the internet.

These include setting the modulation to PPPoA Vc-Mux, the VPI/VCI
to

0/38 (by memory, but this you might need to check with your
provider

who will tell you if you ask directly.)

You will also need to enter a username and password, the username

being in the format of an email address, but probably not an
actual

email address! You provider can (and will) supply these details.

I would also suggest that MAC address based filtering is not
really
very secure, and does not encrypt the traffic so it leaves private
information accessible.
I´m not surprised by the ISP response, I have heard: ¨We don
support

Linux¨ ¨Oh, yes Android, we support that¨
