Not sure about Windows Update, but for several months, www.microsoft.com
has been showing up on Netcraft as "IIS 6.0 running on Linux" following a
brief spell of Windows Server 2003, to which it has recently returned.

Following a series of DDoS attacks, Microsoft began routing their web
traffic through a load balanced reverse-caching proxy. This facility
was provided by a third party (Akamai?), running on Linux. They continue
to use a similar (Linux-based) arrangement for the DNS for microsoft.com.

Ah, the irony! :)
