Hi David

Cows can be tricky to install on an ATX motherboard!

I am not surprised that you are having problems with your PC. Mine is also a Compaq pc though its about 5 years old. I can't get the sound on my motherboard to work with the Linux live Cds that I have used thus far. Try and make sure from the manufacturers websites that your PC will work with the TV card you go for. This is one of the problems of having a PC built by the likes of Compaq; you are tied to their setup. If you build a PC yourself then your hardware is generic and 99% of the time things either work or you can deal with the problem.

I havn't looked at their website, but I am almost certain Hauppauge have Linux drivers to download.

Don't spend to much time farming! :-)

Further adventures in the land of futility.

Bought a signal booster. Linux lost the signal it had found. Windows still displaying a crappy picture with no sound.
Turns out that the bepoxxed sound card i have is NOT duplex enabled. (This on an 18 month old Compaq system.)
There is NO uk frequency table turning up under Linux either.
The idea was to be able to watch tv whilst on the pc without having to buy a new telly.
So, i'm thinking that the next step is to swap the Pinacle card for a wintv card (better reports of success under Linux with Wintv card.)

If this fails I may buy a cow and become a farmer.

Its funny, I have built or upgraded numerous PCs for friends relatives and clients, but mine is still chugging at 333 MHz, with the motherboard beginning to do things unnatural like whistling!! I want to add a DVD, and a TV card (!) but my base doesn't have enough bays. So therefore I said to the family I don't want socks and shower gel this Xmas. You see I am not a twenty year old, in fact you can double it easily, so people think that I should have jumpers and socks!!!
