Hi,
If i were you I'd salvage all of your important data and reinstall the box from
trusted known media. If you have some idea of where the attack cam from then by
all means report the incident but I doubt anyone will get caught for it.

It is possible to determine if you've been hacked, but it may not be simple. It
depends on how skilled you are and how much time you have to throw at the
problem. Personally I'd reinstall and move on..
