Summary of position
This post is a joint position between the University of Wolverhampton,
Impact Applications Ltd and Toffa Software Ltd and is part funded by
Advantage West Midlands. The postholder will be employed by the University
but will be based full-time at the offices of Impact Applications Ltd, where
you will be supervised by the company's Technical Director.
The Applications Developer will be a key member of a team of staff
developing sophisticated database solutions for website content management,
mobile workforce management, and web-enabled back office systems. The
Applications Developer will assist sales and product development staff in
producing technical specifications for projects, delivering high quality
after-sales support to customers by telephone and email, and producing good
quality graphics for websites and GUIs.
We are seeking a developer experienced in the use of PHP and MySQL to
develop web-based applications, with a firm grounding in software
development methodologies and a passion for the use of the internet. You
will need excellent verbal communications skills as you will regularly deal
with customers and non-technical staff, and evidence of good project
management skills would be an advantage. A flair for design is desirable, as
is experience of other development platforms including Oracle and J2EE/J2ME.
You must have an outstanding portfolio of completed projects to show us.

Candidate profile			
1.	Excellent PHP, MySQL, HTML and JavaScript skills with at least 2
years experience deploying these skills in a commercial software development
environment.
2.	Knowledge of XML, CSS and DHTML an advantage, and familiarity with
other development platforms such as Microsoft .NET, Oracle and J2EE/J2ME is
desirable.
3.	General understanding of the Linux/UNIX platform and its use in a
commercial environment.
4.	Excellent verbal communications skills for dealing with customers
and non-technical staff by telephone and in person.
5.	Experience of software design using standard methodology.
6.	Educated to degree level in computer science, business computing or
related subject.
7.	Grade C or above in English and Maths at GCSE or equivalent is
essential. 
8.	Outstanding portfolio of completed websites or e-business
applications.
