Hi Jono,

Linux Format issue 23, January 2002 (p52) did a
feature on fonts and though no licensing is mentioned,
it says, "You can download and use them for free."
Though a quick check of the supplied URL suggests that
Microsoft no longer offer the 'web fonts pack' for
download. The fact that KDE and Mandrake provide
Windows font installers and other distros provide
scripts to get Windows fonts suggest to me you can do
what you want with them.

The article also offers links to http://www.adobe.com
http://www.monotype.com and http://www.bitstream.com
as places to go get free fonts. It also offers a link
to www.urwwpp.de which no longer exists but appears to
have it's collection housed at
http://www.fonts.com/fontpackages/packs_home.asp?nCo=AFMT&con=urw

Mac fonts I don't know.
