that would be debian ;-) If you are using std hardware you shouldn't
have any problems these days.

apt-get install netenv? Like I say debian just tends to work out of the
box these days. Unless you have something really cutting edge and then
you are pretty much on your own with every distro.

Example, imap setup was just a case of apt-geting the packages. It just
worked.

I use apt for most things and dselect when I am doing something that I
shouldn't really do and really need to see which package I am being
silly with is forcing the removal of half my system. Take a look at the
newer package managers being used on debian based systems and find one
you like.

Like Aq suggests. Pick a debian based distro you like the install of
and dist-upgrade to debian unstable. I use disk one of the debian woody
disks (will be sarge in a few weeks) and then upgrade to sid. Aq
suggests something different but it *should* be just as easy to
dist-upgrade. As Fizzy will now doubt fill you in sometimes this isn't
as easy as common sense (and knowledge of debian) would have you believe.

Use either to install sid ;-) find a package manager you like (there are
hundreds it seems every debian based start up got as far as a package
manager before running out of cash) Like I said I use debian cd 1 to
install, others suggest knoppix or Morphix (insert debian based live cd
distro here) but the end result is the same. Gnome 2.6.1, Mono v1, hal,
utopia, firefox 0.8 packages, everything you could wish for is hitting
sid pretty dam quickly at the moment.

come on guys he wants harmony

debian
       debian
             debian
                debian

As you know how to edit a text file and are just looking for the easy
life I have no problems recommending sid. You know it makes sense ;-)
There are hundreds of high level package managers out there to make life
easier.

The dark side is strong BamBam but don't be tempted. You have felt the
power of debian don't become a porn of the dark side follow the path you
know to be right ;-)
