Wayne's original email says something about the GUI being corrupt....

| My GUI is corrupt, and I can't seem to get to a command line from boot
| or from the failed GUI start up.
| How do I do it/?

If this is the case then X has a problem.. but the Virtual Console
things should work fine.

If he means that he tried to boot into Single user mode, and this
failed, then I suspect he has somehow deleted his kernel(s) or the boot
loader itself is broken... in which case he'll need to resort to using a
rescue disk, or reinstalling.

David.
