Simple: The site doesn't conform to internet standards.  IMV it's the 
site, not Konqueror or Firefox, that's broken.  AFAIK using a non-IE 
browser to use the BT webmail client is problematic also.

Oh, and this has /nothing/ to do with the fact you were using Linux, 
except in the fact that IE doesn't run in Linux.  Firefox for Windows 
would have done the same thing.

Someone should go round to BT and give the web designer there 
responsible a good kicking....  ;)
(or at least email them in no uncertain terms)
