I've seen computers where the livecd just totally fails to boot (the same also
happens with Knoppix). Oddly I have found that different versions of Knoppix
have differing success rates - e.g. Knoppix 3.4 fails to boot on one of 
our PCs
at work, yet 3.2 works fine.

I suspect the same problem is with the Ubuntu LiveCDs - they work 
flawlessly on
some PCs and totally fail on others.
