Dunno about IRIX, but theres a Linux howto at
http://www.total-knowledge.com/progs/mips/o2-howto.shtml
and according to the announcement at
http://kerneltrap.org/node/view/3590 OpenBSD are
starting a port to the O2.

It seems that Linux doesn't support the O2 out of the
box (or tarball if you like), you need to patch the
kernel (link at above link). Also according to
http://www.ussg.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/0311.0/0188.html
you have to use a serial console as framebuffer
doesn't work. However the guy in the follow up post
has managed to get a few machines up and running and
describes the process as a bit of a pain but kinda
neat in a geeky way. Ulp...

Ad - knows bugger all about MIPS, SGI or IRIX
