The 'Connect to Server' thing is a Gnome thing and
non-Gnome apps, or more accurately, apps that don't
use the Gnome load/save dialog can't see those shares.
Firefox has been hacked to work with the Gnome dialog,
but Open Office hasn't.

Not a lot you can do about it for now except mount the
shares using mount while we wait for someone to hack
OO.o to use the Gnome dialog.
