You are, of course, free to offer to financially support the website or
proffer a better solution.

Many GNU/Linux websites, magazines, and other informational services
occasionally run Microsoft adverts. As has been said, Microsoft pay for
this advertising and it helps to provide financial support to keep such
services running. People aren't likely swayed by the advertising run.

As an obvious example, The Register run Microsoft adverts, but are one
of their biggest pains on occasion - Microsoft don't buy the right to
have them print pro-Microsoft articles, just the option to display shite
to people visiting the web site (hopefully at full rate).
