That brings up my intended cron file...but still nothing happens with
any of the scheduled events.

bogl at bogubu:~$ ps ax | grep cron
 7712 ? Ss 0:00 /usr/sbin/cron
11620 ? S 0:01 kcron --icon=kcron -caption KCron
12841 pts/0 R+ 0:00 grep cron

So, OK there it seems.

Following this:

http://www.ubuntulinux.org/wiki/CronHowto/view?searchterm=cron

I tried the

wall "Are we there yet?"

test....nothing in any terminal window.

Can anyone give me an example of a really simple cron job with an
obvious result that I can use to test all this?

Many thanks,

Paul
