Exactly - it's hard to get true benchmark data from the internet these
days - it totally depends on who is compiling the report.

The most telling paragraph of that article for me is this...

"The Linux-Apache (NYSE: APA - news) -MySQL-PHP open-source web app
platform, known as LAMP, is becoming more popular with low-end
non-commercial developers and those who cannot afford to invest in
commercial software.

So Ballmer announced that the feature-limited Express editions of its
new developer tools and SQL Server 2005 will be free to download."

So SQL server is going to be a free download... but it's
feature-limited. Doesn't that say it all.. if you are going to base your
site on a software platform why would you choose an artificially limited
 product?

MySQL is very limited in some respects but at least we know that at some
stage these limitations will be overcome and we can all benefit from them.
