Good suggestion but I'm loathe to approach them.  The reason being
that if they sniff at a hint of somebody like myself even thinking of
working again then benefits get cut to the bone.  At the moment I at
the stage of finding out what is available rather than jumping in head
first.

I do have some pretty rough weeks (months sometimes) so I'm looking at
possibly going self employed.  I don't honestly think an employer
would be able to carry me financially if I needed time off like that
at either no or very little notice.

Awkward situation but I would like to try to get back into work rather
than sit back and accept this problem.
