No offence intended Pete. I was projecting forward a decade to when 
Google are the new Microsoft. A PC that fits inside a network 
wall-socket has been in the press this week. You just plug your screen, 
keyboard and mouse into sockets in the face plate.

I think I've seen signs that Microsoft have seen the danger too. Their 
business is moving towards selling an ill-defined dream (e.g. "business 
intelligence" or "end to end creativity") from a list of components with 
overlapping functionality and no price list. Perhaps Microsoft can keep 
'the desktop' alive for a few years the same way IBM did the mainframe.
