Naturally it depends on what you want to do, and what type of employer
you have.  For instance, when I was working at HSBC group any email not
directly related to work was disallowed (including any attempt to use
webmail).

I usually take Mobility Email with me on my iPod Shuffle so that I can
pop the USB stick into a nearby computer and download my encrypted mail.
 It's also useful when my laptop battery dies.  Of course it's not a
tool that will suit everyone or every situation.  However, it's a tool
and it's free (as in speech and as in beer).
