Thanks for the tips all.  I've removed redundant kernels, had a poke
around with Baobab (excellent app btw, been looking for something
similar for a while) and now have 1.1 GB slack.

I've also been recommended GtkOrphan: anyone used this?  It has c.
23MB of orphaned packages listed, tho' I wonder how safe its
assumptions of orphanhood are.
