I am very concerned about this.  The likelihood of reversing this piece
of legislation is relatively low at the moment, especially after the
terrorist attacks last year.  One possible route is to examine the
European Courts, and their interpretation of overstepping governmental
rights of access.

Given that so many resources are tied up in patents it is quite unlikely
we'll see a coherent Free Software reaction on this for a while.  If
people wrote to their MPs it would help (an MP must address each letter
received).  Writing to MEPs would also raise questions in the EU
parliament, leading to possible movement on that front from other EU
nations.
