That was the reason for my question.  I'm a gmail user but still need to
access my mail from http:// at times.

IMAP is better for me :)  I have set up the imap account and now I can
again access my mail via http:// and phone pop seemed to make them
disappear even though they were still there so now I'm happy thanks for
the info guys :)
