BT are very good at this sort of underhand tactic.

Did you know, for example, that if you have an anolog line but are a
low usage customer then you can get a very special discount rate.
However, change that line for a digital one and not matter how little
you use the line you have to pay full whack.  Considering that most
lines are now being changed to digital ones that's pretty nasty.  It
hits low income families particularly hard as they may be thinking of
using IP telephony instead of BT landline.  You have to have a digital
line though.....
