Hi all :-)

Can anybody tell me a reasonable but decently priced domain registrar?
I find myself in the position of needing to register a domain name.
I may need hosting in the future but I'm not sure yet.  Dick, feel
free to jump in here and make suitable offers to entice my pennies :-)

You may guess that this is something totally new to me :-)

I use no-ip.com - probably not the cheapest (?20? ish) but since they
also do my domain forwarding, mx backup etc
its nice to keep all on one basket.
Oh, but don't do .co.uk - for that I use uk2.net

I've always done my registrations with 1and1. They're cheap as anybody
else and easy to manage. Ultimately a domain registration is the same
with any company, it just comes down to price, ease of administration
and quality of support.

The 1and1 interface is easy to use and well developed though a little
convoluted as they do hosting and all sorts of other things, so you get
those tools in your Control Panel even though you don't need them. I've
never had to use their support but cancelling a domain was a hassle, I
had to fax them but without realising my fax didn't go through and the
domain eventually was renewed and charged to my card.

I've also used joker.com, uk2.net and 123reg.co.uk. I didn't like uk2's
interface and they automatically give you all kinds of services I didn't
want and they ask you to pay to renew those services later on (you don't
have to of course and your domain reg will be ok so long as you renew
that). I once spent an hour on the phone waiting to get through to
123reg after giving up waiting during calls which lasted 25 mins and 45
mins. Never had a problem with Joker but they don't do .uk domains.

Normally registrars will either renew your domains automatically, charge
your card and send you a receipt afterwards, or they send you a
notification and make you go and pay before the expiry date. 1and1 do
the first, the other three I mentioned do the second.

So, 1and1 I think. Or anybody else with a decent price, good interface
and reputable support.

Cheers everybody.  I'm seriously looking at 1&1 as I like the way it's
set out.

Take care.
