Try doing a search on the Linux Magazine site.  I recall reading about
a house alarm project on there about 2 years ago.  I think the
author's last name was Schilli.  He's a perl master if I remember
correctly.  If I could find my copy of the relevant edition I would
offer to let you have a loan of it.  Trouble is I don't know quite
where I put them all... posibly the loft and at the moment I cannot
get up there, sorry :-(
