[Wolves] Apologies for unwanted Google chat invitation (and ideas how to turn if off)

Hello,

I love Gmail but it has this annoying feature so that every time I
email someone or someone emails me it automatically saves them in my
contacts.

I must have clicked something by mistake and Gmail has sent a mass
invitation to Google chat to just about everyone was in my contact
list.

If anybody of you has received this invitation, I apologize.

I don't know if there's a way to turn this off, I must clear the
contact list manually every now and again or switch the non-javascript
version of Gmail, but I need some of these features.

If you have any solutions for this it would be appreciated.
