I have an HP Mininote 2133 which has the B43 wireless card. In both
Ubuntu and Fedora you will need a wired connection to get the non-free
firmware. In Ubuntu it's as easy as using the 'Additional Drivers'
wizard. I'm not a Fedora expert but I had to do some manual
downloading and follow some instructions:

http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/b43#Device_firmware_installation

..and I guess the same would apply to most other distributions.
