i got it working in the end with help of david morley on facebook
chat. turned out that it was able to see the dvd and boot from it ,
the key was pressing enter and waiting for a bit for linux too boot
off the live disk. then it was just a case of deleting all the
partions off another hard drive , keeping the 500gb for another day
challange(kept windows on it maybe i will be able to get the password
reset or whatever needs done to get access to windows 8).

it something to do with the new modern bios uefi and secure boot which
is now supported very well in ubuntu and linux mint 17.3 64bit. just
need to do some tweeks to my new system and it all systems go.

already a lot quieter then my old laptop and about 3/4 times faster.

i would like to know from the HP on this forum what he is on about
bios drivers (not sure he that clued up on this stuff and how did he
get the role if he knows so little about how the bios works)

guess i was not that clear with my english again ... really need to
take a stand back and read it 10 or 20 times to make sure it reads
correct.
