I must admit that in one sense I was being a little bit lazy with regards t= o searching the net but more importantly I was hoping to =93sup with the go= ds=94 by seeking advice from the LUG list as you all seem to speak a langua= ge that only higher beings understand. =20 I=92m not really bothered what derivative of Linux I put on there although = I have never used or seen BSD. I should give you a little bit more info so = that you can see were I=92m coming from. =20 1. As I said earlier I have a Quasi Server/Workstation which is dual b= oot WinME & RedHat 9 the ME and RedHat have 40GB each plus a slave disk of = 40GB with 512MB at present only the ME is networked I will come to the reas= ons why in a bit. 2. I also have a DELL Latitude CPXj again dual boot Win98 & Redhat 9 1= 0GB HDD with 128MB PIII500. I am lucky in the sense that I can take the Del= l machine to work, connect to the network and have free internet access all= day (9 to 5:30) our engineer kindly set up the network configuration for m= y employers domain under Linux so I am reluctant to start messing with sett= ings in an attempt to connect to the machine I have at home although it wou= ld be nice if there was a way of having two connections in the network setu= p, one for work and one for home. The idea behind the Digital HiNote is to load, wipe, load again and connect= to my PC at home and generally muck around to teach myself the mysteries o= f Linux. I have installed a number of different applications on the DELL ma= chine some worked some didn=92t I know bits of residue are left on it but l= ater on I can hopefully clean it up. I=92m very interested in networks plus= I could us the HiNote in a firewall role (as a test) all sorts of options = are open as it normally sits in a cupboard although it=92s old I really lik= e it (it=92s only got a 10=94 inch screen) so as far as software is concern= ed I=92m not bothered I would be a bit upset if the hardware went kaput. =20 Phew sorry about the length. Plus throwing another question into the meltin= g pot (connecting the DELL machine) I=92ll go away now and leave you alone. =20 Cheers =20 PeterC =20 P.S. I=92m currently corresponding from work so it=92s a bit of a long wind= ed process I receive directly but need to go on the net access my account a= nd then send so please bare with me. ------=_Part_4341_13540318.1067952685342 Content-Type: text/html Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <P class=3DMsoNormal style=3D"MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><FONT= face=3D"Times New Roman" size=3D3>Hi Fizz

Sorry to send direct to you again but I tried sending to the list and go= t rejected error 550.

<P class=3DMsoNormal style=3D"MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><?xml= :namespace prefix =3D o ns =3D "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />= <FONT face=3D"Times New Roman" size=3D3>

<FONT face=3D"Times New Roman" size=3D3>I must admit = that in one sense I was being a little bit lazy with regards to searching t= he net but more importantly I was hoping to =93sup with the gods=94 by seek= ing advice from the LUG list as you all seem to speak a language that only = higher beings understand.

<P class=3DMsoNormal style=3D"MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt">= <FONT face=3D"Times New Roman" size=3D3>

<P class=3DMsoNormal style=3D"MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><FONT= face=3D"Times New Roman" size=3D3>I=92m not really bothered what derivativ= e of Linux I put on there although I have never used or seen BSD.
